New York psych-folk collective The Stevenson Ranch Davidians have released “Love, Light, Beauty & Truth,” a single recorded in 2019 that the band held back for seven years before deciding the time was right. It’s the first in a planned run of previously unheard songs from the same sessions, arriving with a video directed by Jacob Kedzierski.
Built around singer-songwriter Dwayne Seagraves and bassist Jessica Latiolait, The Stevenson Ranch Davidians have worked through shifting lineups for close to two decades, carrying the mythologized psychedelic culture of Southern California into a sound now rooted in New York. The band folds ’60s psych, folk and soul into early American roots music, a mix that placed 2017’s “Amerikana” alongside touchstones like The Byrds, Mazzy Star and The Brian Jonestown Massacre — a connection reinforced by longtime member Rob Campanella, who plays guitar and Hammond B3 for the Davidians and also produced, engineered and mixed the new single.
“Love, Light, Beauty & Truth” was tracked at Figment Sounds in the spring of 2019, about a year after “Amerikana” and roughly a year before the pandemic reshaped touring and release plans across the industry. Seagraves sings lead over acoustic guitar and percussion, joined by Latiolait on bass, Misha Bullock on drums and backing vocals, Campanella on electric guitar and organ, and Andy Campanella on additional backing vocals.
“To say that the music felt relevant at the time is an understatement, yet, somehow the time was not quite right for its release,” Seagraves said. “Now here we are some seven years later and the song’s relevance hasn’t faded. Maybe that makes it timeless.”
Latiolait said more material from the same sessions is on the way: “We will be releasing a series of brand-new singles over several months, each pulled from sessions we recorded back in 2019. These songs have been waiting a long time to be heard.”
The single arrives as the band closes out its fourth full-length album, recorded at Rick Rubin’s Shangri-La Studio in Malibu and due in early 2027. Live dates follow this fall, including three shows opening for Elephant Stone in Troy, New York, New York City, and Washington, D.C.
