Making Noise – Miracle Parade, David Bazan and the Flaming Lips

The Making Noise posts were set up to share music that I’ve been listening to. Today’s post is a bit different as it previews some music that I will be seeing (and hearing) over the next five days. First up is Miracle Parade with the premier of the Hark! String Quartet & Choir. This show is tonight, February 17th at the Echo in Los Angeles. Other performers playing are Neutral ukulele Hotel, Michael Epstein Memorial Library and Golden Bloom. Above is the video of “The Dying Physicist” from Miracle Parade’s album Hark! …and other lost transmissions.

Next up is a house concert with David Bazan. I saw him a number of years ago when his band, Pedro the Lion, opened for Low in San Francisco. Currently he is doing a series of Living Room Shows which are small intimate performances in people’s homes. These shows usually sell out quickly and there are no tickets left for Saturday but there are a few for other shows on the tour.

And finally, on Tuesday, The Flaming Lips bring their circus to Bimbo’s in San Francisco. Bimbo’s is arguably my favorite venue anywhere. The 700 seat club was opened in 1931 and still retains its original Art-Deco design. The Flaming Lips will perform their 1999 album The Soft Bulletin in its entirety as part of the Noise Pop Festival. This show is sold out as well, but there are a number of Noise Pop shows that you can still attend.
