The Mix Olympics – Part Two

The 2012 London Olympics are finished and most of the athletes have gone home with their medals. And while the TELEFUNKEN Mix Olympics submissions are closed, we are still waiting to hear who’s mixes will take home the gold, silver and bronze (these are actually M80 microphones from TELEFUNKEN). I posted some information about this contest and shared my mix from Human Radio a few weeks ago. You & Me & The Radio is an organ and guitar driven classic rock song recorded at Java Jive Studios in Nashville, TN.

My next submission was Girls With Glasses from Terry Anderson and the Olympic Ass-Kickin Team. It’s described as a classic rock and roll song recorded by Fletcher and the team at Soundpure in Raleigh, NC. The song features jangly 12-string electric guitars, Wurlitzer, percussion and dense backing vocals. This took some time for me as there were a lot more tracks and takes than in the first session. I also decided to play around with it by adding a bit of distortion to the drums. Below is my mix.

There was one more session from the Sunshine Garcia Band. For I Am The Moon is an a capella vocal performance featuring voices as the instruments, as well as a yukelle and electric bass. Recorded at Hollywood Way Studios in Burbank, CA, this song is all about the layers voices and includes both male and female performances. Unfortunately I didn’t have time to finish it before the submission date however I still may mix it for my own practice.
