PRS Custom 24 "Birds of a Feather" shown in Blood Red, Charcoal Microburst, and Honey Gold

Signal Chain: Custom 24 “Birds of a Feather” by PRS Guitars

PRS Guitars is bringing its Birds of a Feather inlay to a Core guitar for the first time in the Custom 24 “Birds of a Feather” Limited Edition, a 360-piece run that pairs the design with one of the company’s longest-running guitar shapes.

The inlay was designed a decade ago by PRS Director of Manufacturing Paul Miles during a trip to Japan, and until now had only appeared on Private Stock instruments, including the Private Stock 30th Anniversary “Birds of a Feather” Hollowbody I Limited Edition. Bringing it to the Custom 24 platform puts a design once reserved for the company’s high-end shop within reach of players buying a production model.

Miles has said he wanted the inlay to read “simple and easy to read from across the room or on a stage” while remaining recognizably PRS, describing the process as a new way of thinking about inlay design, working with the wood itself to create movement and space.

PRS describes the Custom 24 platform as offering wide-open tonal character and effortless playability, qualities the company says make this edition equally suited to the stage, the studio, or a private collection. The model is available in Blood Red, Charcoal Microburst, and Honey Gold.

The Custom 24 “Birds of a Feather” Limited Edition is limited to 360 instruments, joining a run of limited-edition guitars we’ve covered, including D’Angelico’s Premier Bob Weir Bedford Guitar and La Grange Guitars’ reworked “The Wheel”.
