Vox Amplification has released the AC Mini, a 10-watt guitar amplifier built to carry the feel, look, and tone of its AC Series into smaller rooms. It was developed by the same engineering team behind the Vox AC Hand-Wired Series, and it’s aimed at home players, practicing musicians, and songwriters who want real amp response at a manageable volume without working through digital menus to get there.
The AC Mini is an all-analog, solid-state design built around the newly developed Vox Dynamic Response Circuit. According to Vox, the circuit is meant to reproduce the dynamic response, natural compression, and harmonic character players associate with classic tube amps. Sound comes through a single 3-inch Vox original 8-ohm speaker.
Many small practice amplifiers lean on digital modeling and preset menus to cover a lot of ground. The AC Mini takes the other route, keeping the signal path analog and the control set short, with the aim of responding like a real amp at low volume.
The two-channel control panel follows the traditional layout of Vox AC amps. The circuit is voiced to preserve the character of different pickups, from single coils to humbuckers, and to respond to pick attack and to changes at the guitar’s volume knob. That kind of response is what lets a player clean up a sound by rolling back the volume rather than reaching for a different setting.
For more gain and sustain, an onboard Boost switch pushes the preamp into overdrive, adding harmonic overtones while staying usable across the full sweep of the controls.
Reverb is the one digital element in the design. The Vox engineering team developed and voiced it after extensive analysis and critical listening, aiming to emulate the warmth, subtle movement, and character of a classic spring reverb tank.
Built for Quiet Practice
The top panel carries a 1/4-inch instrument input, a 3.5 mm stereo aux input, and a 3.5 mm stereo headphone output. The aux input connects a phone, tablet, or other audio device for playing along with backing tracks, and the headphone output covers practice when volume isn’t an option. The amp runs on an included 12V DC adapter.
The cabinet is wood, with a bass-reflex port that uses the wood’s mass and natural resonance to improve low-end response and overall frequency balance. It measures 8.70 by 4.92 by 7.09 inches and weighs just under four pounds. The styling stays with Vox tradition: a split-front cabinet, diamond grille cloth, and a gold Vox logo.
At a street price of $99.99, the AC Mini brings the AC Series layout and voicing down to a size and volume that suits a practice space at home.
