Ravine DSP has released version 1.3 of Inter::State, the VST3/AU plug-in host built to organize the effects musicians already own. The update centers on Slot Scenes, a new way to save and recall a hosted plug-in’s settings without leaving the host or building out a DAW automation lane.
Inter::State works as a single insert holding three racks, each capable of hosting up to eight plug-ins in serial, parallel, or multiband arrangements. Rather than juggling floating plug-in windows and scattered MIDI mappings across a session, a user builds a chain once inside Inter::State, maps its macros and modulation, and reopens the whole setup exactly as it was left, in any DAW.
Slot Scenes extends that idea into a workflow of its own. Each slot can store up to eight parameter states from its hosted plug-in, along with mixer settings if a user chooses. From there, a musician can switch instantly between saved states, morph continuously between them to find something new, or set a tempo-synced crossfade that shifts a track’s processing over a chosen musical duration. Scenes respond to macros, MIDI, host automation, or Inter::State’s own modulator, which functions as a rhythmic layer control on a macro dial.
The update also folds in Inter::State[Bridge], a companion utility included at no extra cost. Loaded once as a virtual instrument in a project, it works as a central control surface. Automating or MIDI mapping its eight sliders broadcasts those values to subscribed macros on any Inter::State instance in the session, so a single fader move can shift several tracks’ processing at once instead of requiring duplicate automation lanes on every channel.
For Ravine DSP founder Craig Lopez, the update marks a shift in what Inter::State is for. He describes its original purpose as solving DAW routing problems and loudness inconsistency, but says Slot Scenes moves the host further into creative territory: “Version 1.3 is where it crosses over into a creative environment.” Selector, Morph, and Crossfade modes, he adds, let a musician move between saved states without hand-drawing automation curves, while Inter::State’s zero-added-latency Auto-Gain keeps large parameter shifts from causing volume spikes or clipping.
Inter::State, including Inter::State[Bridge], is available now as a 64-bit VST3 and AU plug-in for macOS 10.13 or later and Windows 10 or 11, compatible with major hosts including Ableton Live, Logic Pro, Reaper, and Cubase. It’s priced at a discounted Founders Edition rate before rising to its regular price, and existing owners can update to V1.3 for free.
