Walrus Audio Fundamental Lo-Fi Delay pedal with Time, Feedback, and Mix sliders and AM, Murk, Echo mode switch

Walrus Audio Debuts the Fundamental Lo-Fi Delay, a Tape-Worn Delay Pedal

Walrus Audio has added the Fundamental Lo-Fi Delay to its Fundamental Series, a compact delay pedal built around the frayed, unpredictable character of old tape machines rather than pristine, clean repeats.

Where the rest of the Fundamental line favors straightforward, approachable controls, the Lo-Fi Delay channels that same three-slider simplicity into a pedal meant to sound worn on purpose. Walrus Audio drew on the textures of vintage tape delay and the multi-tap echoes of an old RadioShack Realistic reverb unit, folding that character into three selectable delay modes reached through a single three-way switch.

AM mode leans bright, adding a high-pass filter, light harmonic distortion, and dual wow and flutter modulation so repeats melt into a hazy, radio-adjacent wash. Murk goes the other direction, rolling off the top end and layering in heavy distortion with dual low-frequency modulation for a thick, responsive cloud suited to darker, more ambient playing. Echo takes a rhythmic approach, using multi-tap, analog-style tone shaping that gathers short delay times into dense ambience or spreads longer ones into syncopated, cascading patterns.

Time, Feedback, and Mix sliders cover the basics: up to one second of delay time, repeats that stretch from a single echo to trails approaching infinite feedback, and a blend control for balancing wet and dry signal. Tap tempo rounds things out, with three selectable divisions, quarter note, dotted eighth note, and eighth note, for locking the delay to a rhythm on the fly.

The pedal fits into Walrus Audio’s broader push toward accessible, single-footprint tools that don’t require digging through menus to land on a usable sound, a design language also present in Canvas Expression, the company’s magnetic-sensor expression pedal. Where that pedal solved a mechanical wear problem, the Fundamental Lo-Fi Delay solves a different one, giving players worn, tape-style character without needing to track down and maintain actual vintage gear.

The Fundamental Lo-Fi Delay is available now at a retail price of $99.99, giving players a compact way to add tape-worn, unpredictable delay to a board already built around Walrus Audio’s Fundamental Series.
