Where Mojave Audio Comes From
Mojave Audio traces back to the 1980s, when David Royer built microphones, preamps, and compressors by hand out of a garage in Fullerton, California. Royer later became known for his ribbon microphone designs, but the tube and FET condenser mics he’d been developing all along found a following of their own among engineers working around Los Angeles.
In 2005, Royer partnered with producer and studio owner Dusty Wakeman to formally launch Mojave Audio around those original designs. The company remains family-owned and based in the Los Angeles area, and its condenser mics have become a common way for players and engineers to step up into higher-end recording without the cost of vintage or boutique gear, useful context for a home string setup like Stevie’s.
