goodbyemotel – SXSW Artist Interview

We are an experimental live-visuals, multimedia, rock feast. We fuse indie rock with sounds from outta space. We have drums, guitars, bass, synth bass, keyboards, lights and a projector. We have come all the way from Australia. We now live in NYC.

As a lead-up to South by Southwest, The Noise Room is talking to bands and artists performing at SXSW. Here’s what Dave Schmidt, keyboardist and vocalist of goodbyemotel had to say:

What do like most about playing at SXSW?

I’ve never played before. But I’m assuming I will just have all of the music in the world at my finger tips!

Are you out promoting anything?

We are promoting our new 4D show. As well as our up and coming album.

Are there any bands or musicians that you are looking forward to checking out?

Gossling, Goldroom.. any band that starts with a “G” really.. oh.. and maybe some films.

What are the challenges for you or your band when playing at SXSW?

Not getting bed bugs.

Do you have any survival tips for those attending SXSW?

Again.. I’ve never been. But I would say.. get a room that you can totally black out so that you can sleep at any time of the day.

Are you more “stick around, check out music and enjoy the scene” or “play as many shows as possible then get out”?

Play as many shows as possible AND check out and enjoy the scene. BOTH!

What are your SXSW Show Times?

WED 7:00pm – Rusty’s
THURS 10:00pm – DEVISE Magazine Launch Party @ Big Band
