A Brief History of the Minimoog

This is the second mini-documentary that I’ve posted this week. The documentary follows the life of the Minimoog Synthesizer from its inception through its prolific contributions to popular music throughout the last four decades.

Artists such as Manfred Mann, Rush, Yes, Chick Corea, Kraftwerk, Bob Marley and Randy Numan have been influenced by the Minimoog and have helped bring the instrument into the forefront. Lou Reed has been using one recently as well.

Moog states that this is the first installment documenting the journey of the Minimoog synth through the 1970’s hinting that there may be additional videos coming. In 2004, Moog, a 72 minute documentary on Bob Moog was also released. It was described by the New York Times as a “compelling documentary portrait of a provocative, thoughtful and deeply sympathetic figure” and is available on Netflix.
