High Highs – Artist Interview

Following the release of last year’s lauded Open Season album and subsequent tours with Vampire Weekend, Sky Ferreira, How To Dress Well and Stars, Brooklyn by way of Sydney duo High Highs are back today to share the video for new song “Movement” via The Fader. The video, directed by E.J. McLeavey-Fisher, shows a progression from last year’s Open Season as the band is showcasing a wider range of influences while maintaining its signature swooning sound. The video’s release also comes in conjunction with the band’s announcement of their SXSW performances, all of which are available below along with the “Movement” video.

As a lead-up to South by Southwest, The Noise Room is talking to bands and artists performing at SXSW. Here’s what Oli from High Highs had to say:

Can you tell us about your sound and who’s in your band?

Ambient Pop. We like to strive for an expansive sound with big melodies and harmonies. Jack is on guitar and lead vox, Sean is drums and samples, and I’m on Synth and vox. Jack and I are from Sydney Australia and our drummer Sean is from Seattle.

What do like most about playing at SXSW?

BBQ, New music everywhere and being in a cultural Texan oasis

Are you out promoting anything?

We’ve just released the first song leading up to the release of our forthcoming second album which will be released later in the year.

Are there any bands or musicians that you are looking forward to checking out?

Theif and Pure Bathing Culture among many others.

What are the challenges for you or your band when playing at SXSW?

Normally it’s transport but we’re satying downtown this time so it’ll be way more easy going.

Do you have any survival tips for those attending SXSW?

Drink water, eat meat, and work out like crazy every morning.

Are you more “stick around, check out music and enjoy the scene” or “play as many shows as possible then get out”?

Hmm, bit of both I guess. It’s a pretty great opportunity to see something unexpected.

What are your SXSW Show Times?
