Cheers Elephant is a tight, rootsy, psychedelic poprock quartet from Philadelphia, PA – now SoCal. Digging deep into three part harmonies and pop song arrangements, Cheers has a sound that’ll make your dad’s toe tap, your mom’s hip shake, and your sister’s heart throb. And the live show? Some say it’s something close to the devil, God, or cocaine. Releasing their latest album, Like Wind Blows Fire (2012), the band has played over 300 shows since 2008, supporting artists such as Mayer Hawthorne, Kopecky Family Band, The Go! Team, Jefferson Starship, Darwin Deez, and many more. Like Wind Blows Fire peaked at #65 on the CMJ Indie Rock Charts, with their track “Leaves” receiving 445K + plays on Spotify, hitting #4 on Hype Machine, as well as being featured on We Are Hunted, NPR, Ex.FM, Good Music All Day, and Spotify.
As a lead-up to South by Southwest, The Noise Room is talking to bands and artists performing at SXSW. Here’s what Cheers Elephant had to say:
What do like most about playing at SXSW?
Staying with our friends Myk and Julie, Torchy’s Tacos, warm weather, free beer / food, and meeting new friends.
Are you out promoting anything?
We are working on recording a new record and will be playing some new material to hype our future release.
Are there any bands or musicians that you are looking forward to checking out?
We are playing so many shows that we’ll be lucky if we catch another act. I’m sure SXSW will surprise us with a new act we didn’t intend on seeing.
What are the challenges for you or your band when playing at SXSW?
Getting from one show to the next in time!
Do you have any survival tips for those attending SXSW?
Be prepared to walk and get hot. Drink water and find the free food and drinks via your smart phone.
Are you more “stick around, check out music and enjoy the scene” or “play as many shows as possible then get out”?
Definitely stick around traditionally, sadly we will be tossed around like cloths in the laundry this year.
