Spector has introduced the Euro 4 Rex Brown Signature bass, a new artist model developed with the longtime Pantera bassist. Built within Spector’s Euro Series, the instrument translates Rex Brown‘s established tone, feel, and performance requirements into a production-ready platform shaped by decades of professional use.
Brown’s playing has anchored Pantera’s catalog from Cowboys from Hell through Far Beyond Driven and beyond, helping define a generation of heavy music, and his approach to sound has kept evolving without losing its core identity. The signature model builds directly on the instruments he has relied on throughout his career. “The new Rex Brown Euro Bass has been a labor of love,” Brown says. “We took our time with every detail, from the balance of the pickups to the backplate design, it features the same neck profile I’ve used on my Spector’s for years. It all comes together in a bass I’m incredibly proud of and one I think players will really enjoy.”
The Euro 4 Rex Brown Signature pairs a flame maple top with empresswood body wings, a combination meant to preserve Spector’s familiar tonal character while trimming overall weight for long performances. Its Desert Gold finish, inspired by the New Mexico landscape Brown calls home, is set off by smoke crown inlays, gold hardware, a classic script Spector logo, and Brown’s own logo on the back of the headstock.
Construction follows Spector’s neck-through design, built around a three-piece maple neck for stability and sustain. An Indian rosewood fingerboard and brass nut round out the neck assembly, contributing to a balanced response and consistent playability, along with Brown’s own signature neck profile. It’s one more piece of gear built entirely around a single player’s specifications rather than a general-purpose signature in name only.
Electronics come from a set of EMG PJ-X pickups paired with Spector’s TonePump active preamp, aimed at a responsive, articulate voice with strong low end and a distinct midrange character. A rear trimpot gives players direct control over output level without opening up the electronics cavity.
