Rotterdam’s Library Card may have formed only a few years ago, but the quartet has quickly earned a reputation for creating music that is as adventurous as it is thought-provoking. Blending post-punk, noise rock and art rock, the band’s sound is built around angular guitars, expressive spoken-word vocals and a willingness to explore the tension between everyday anxieties and unexpected moments of optimism.
Their latest single, “People Pleaser,” offers a compelling introduction to that approach. What begins with a tightly wound groove gradually unravels into an intense, noise-filled release, reflecting the song’s exploration of the pressure to satisfy others while losing sight of yourself. It’s challenging, energetic and rewarding in equal measure.
“People Pleaser” also previews the band’s forthcoming debut album, Peeling an Orange in Just One Go, arriving later this year. Building on the momentum of their 2024 EP Nothing, Interesting, Library Card continues to expand its sound while earning appearances at festivals including SXSW, Dour Festival, Le Guess Who?, Best Kept Secret, along with support slots for OSEES, Sports Team and Just Mustard.
“People Pleaser” offers an intriguing preview of what’s to come from Peeling an Orange in Just One Go. Rather than following a familiar formula, Library Card embraces experimentation while balancing urgency, tension and unexpected moments of warmth. It’s an approach that makes them one of the more interesting new bands to keep an eye on as they prepare to release their debut album.
